Privacy Policy

The short version: Find My Mailbox only uses your location to find nearby mailboxes. We don't store it, sell it, or share it with anyone. We don't require an account, and we don't track you as an individual.
Who we are
Find My Mailbox is a free web tool available at findmymailbox.com. It helps people locate nearby USPS collection boxes and post offices and get directions to them.
What information we collect
We collect as little data as possible to make the app work:
- Your location — only when you tap "Locate Me." This is used solely to find nearby mailboxes and is never stored on our servers. It exists only in your browser for the duration of your session.
- Addresses or ZIP codes — if you choose to type one in instead of using GPS. This is sent to Mapbox to convert it to coordinates, and is not stored by us.
- Anonymous visit data — through Cloudflare Web Analytics, we collect aggregate page view counts, general location (country/region level), browser type, and device type. This data does not identify you as an individual and uses no cookies.
We never see or store your precise GPS coordinates. Your location is sent directly from your browser to mapping services to find nearby mailboxes — it never passes through our own servers.
How we use your information
- Your location is used to search for nearby USPS mailboxes and display them on the map
- Your location is used to calculate walking or driving directions
- Anonymous analytics help us understand how the site is being used so we can improve it
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond making the app function.
Third-party services we use
Find My Mailbox uses the following trusted third-party services to function:
- Mapbox — provides map tiles, address geocoding, and turn-by-turn routing. Your location coordinates are sent to Mapbox to generate maps and directions. Mapbox's privacy policy is available at mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
- OpenStreetMap / Overpass API — provides mailbox location data. Your coordinates are sent to query for nearby mailboxes. OpenStreetMap's privacy policy is available at osmfoundation.org.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics — provides anonymous, cookieless analytics. Cloudflare does not track individual visitors. Their privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
- Netlify — hosts this website. Standard server logs may be collected by Netlify. Their privacy policy is at netlify.com/privacy.
Cookies
Find My Mailbox does not use cookies. Cloudflare Web Analytics is specifically cookieless by design, so no cookie consent banner is required.
Data retention
We do not store personal data on our servers. Your location is processed entirely in your browser and is never saved. Anonymous aggregate analytics data is retained by Cloudflare per their standard data retention policies.
Your rights
Since we don't collect or store personal data, there is nothing to request deletion of on our end. If you have concerns about data held by our third-party providers (Mapbox, Cloudflare, Netlify), you can contact them directly via their privacy policies linked above.
If you are located in California, the EU, or another jurisdiction with specific privacy laws, the above practices are designed to comply with those requirements by default — we simply don't collect personal data in the first place.
Children's privacy
Find My Mailbox does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The site has no account registration and collects no personal data, making it safe for general audiences.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
